BURMA AND EASTERN INDIA

19 Mountain Summits with Prominence of 1,500 meters or greater

Please send comments to webmaster.

The following is the first listing for the likely prominences of Burma and the Eastern Indian states.  Burma (or Myanmar if you prefer) has sixteen ultra-prominent summits.  Two additional summits on the Burma/Thailand border appear to just miss the cutoff, and can be found on the Southeast Asia page.

There are six summits on this list wholly or partly in Eastern India.  These are the summits east of the Brahmaputra River, and are part of the same mountainous region as the summits in Western Burma.  For Himalayan Summits in Western Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim please refer to the High Asia II page.  Also note that there are some notable mountains near the India/China and Burma/China border, whose summits appear to lie wholly within China.

FOOTNOTES

We strive to have the most accurate summit elevations in every instance.  Unfortunately, the authors have not had access to large-scale topographic mapping of Burma, and have relied heavily on older Soviet era mapping.  We invite your comments and/or corrections if you have access to the most recent topographic surveys or other elevation or place name data.

Most of the elevations above were derived from Soviet 1:200,000 mapping and from detailed analysis of SRTM data.  Where there was a high degree of concurrence, elevations from the Soviet maps are used.  In several cases however, the elevations are estimated from SRTM data
