FOOTNOTES

We strive to have the most accurate summit elevations in every instance.  Unfortunately, the authors have not had access to modern topographic mapping of Mongolia.  We invite your comments and/or corrections if you have access to the most recent topographic surveys or other elevation data.  Mountain summits and elevations were derived from Soviet 1:100,000 and 1:200,000 scale mapping.   Elevations on the U.S. Tactical Pilotage Charts have proven to be less reliable in this part of the world.  In many cases, we transliterated the summit names from cyrillic to English; these summits are indicated in BOLD.  If you believe that there is a more conventional spelling of any of the above names, we invite your feedback.

We extensively analyzed SRTM 3" data to confirm elevations and to derive prominence.  In the (not infrequent) instance where SRTM analysis and printed elevations were incompatible, we have estimated the elevation from SRTM data, using our own algortihms.  On the whole, it is felt that prominence is accurate to 30 meters (at 2 standard deviations.)

We welcome further input; as little is known of these summits.

[1]   You will note that a comparatively unknown range highpoint called Jargalant appears to be the most prominent Mongolian summit (click here for satellite photo), edding out the Mongolian highpoint by just a few meters.
Джагалант Хаирхан.  If you are searching for more information on the internet, please note that the Mongolian name for mountain is translated variously as Hairhan, Hayrhan, Hairkhan, and Khairkhan.

[15]  Almost certainly higher than the commonly given 3965m.
