Welcome to the first listing of the 24 likely "ultra-prominences" for Turkey.

Cyprus, which has one ultra-prominence has been moved to the Core Europe list.   All of the following 23 summits are in Anatolia/Asia.

Please send comments to webmaster.

This list is the first of 20 lists for the Asian ultras, corresponding to "A" on the continental map.  Please come back for an upcoming reference map and page for Asia.

FOOTNOTES

We strive to have the most accurate summit elevations in every instance.  Unfortunately, the authors have not had access to large-scale topographic mapping of Turkey.  We invite your comments and/or corrections if you have access to the most recent topographic surveys (at 1:25,000 or 1:50,000) or other elevation data.  Most of the mountains elevations above were derived from commercial publications and/or JOG 1:250,000 maps, which are somewhat dated.  Where we were unable to access these sources, elevations elevations were estimated from SRTM data, then taken from Soviet 1:200,000 mapping where the latter was found to be compatible with SRTM.

[1]  The published elevation of 5137m is most compatible with SRTM data.  Another published elevation of 5165m is probably too high.
[2]  An alternate elevation of 4168m is sometimes given.
[3]  The highest point of the Demirkazik range is called Kizilkaya. For more information, see Rob Woodall's trip report.
